Q. Does this work for all short filmmakers?
A. We’ve designed this guide to be as comprehensive as possible so there are more than enough options for every film to get funding. In our case studies and examples we’ve included a wide range of films which were all successfully funded and made
Q. Is this suitable for someone who’s never gotten a film funded before?
A. Absolutely, we all start somewhere. We’d advise choosing the opportunities that feel most doable and comfortable for you to fund your film, and expand from there. We’ve also include a complete glossary, so if there’s anything you’re not sure of or haven’t come across before, you can find help info there
Q. I’ve successfully funded a few films before, but now the funding opportunities have either dried up or I can’t use them again. Will this guide work for me?
A. Honestly, we can’t give you a definitive ‘yes’ on this, as we don’t know what you’ve used or tried in the past. What we can definitely say is that not only are there over 20 funding opportunities included in the guide, we’ve also included different methods for each opportunity
Crowdfunding, for example, is something people often feel they’ve exhausted as an option as their last campaigns were supported by loved ones. We’ve included a complete blueprint to a business-based crowdfunding campaign, so you can successfully crowdfund your film without relying on loved ones (or even sharing it on your Facebook profile!)
Q. Is this information up-to-date?
A. 100%. This guide was published in September 2023 after four months of research, writing and getting feedback from test readers, and we will be updating it every 2-3 months as needed. In the UK there are a lot of ‘pop-up’ funds (funds which generally last for a couple of years maximum). We have included pop-up funds that are currently running, and as they close and new ones open, we will update that in the guide. You will automatically receive the updated guide as soon as it’s available
